One of the core values of our fraternity is philanthropic service to others. Our sisters take this value to heart and make it a priority in their everyday lives by giving back to the community. For example, throughout the academic year, sisters participate in Reading Partners, a program designed to help tutor children in the local DC area and ensure that they become proficient readers. Each year on Dr. Suess' Birthday, Pi Phi nationally celebrates our Fraternity Day of Service by decorating book plates and bookmarks with children. Local alumnae come out to support us, and sometimes you can even catch them dressed in a Cat in the Hat costume! Finally, each spring, Pi Phi holds its Annual WiffleBall Tournament, Arrowstrike. The weeklong philanthropy includes events such as Chipotle fundraisers, Pie-a-Pi Phi, and a Teach for America panel. The week concludes with a tournament played down near the Lincoln Memorial, where fraternities compete to be named the Arrowstrike Champion! In total for the academic tearm our sisters have contributed over 1,600 hours of community service with 350 of those hours dedicated towards literacy program. In total, we have raised over $13,200 for charitable organizations on campus and hope to increase our contributions in the future!
